Katskhi Pillar – Imereti, Georgia
As if by magic, the Katskhi pillar rises 60 feet above the hills of Georgia, like a colossal baseball bat or a club, left there eons ago by a mythical race of giants. It has always been considered to have a mystical aura which drew people to this place. Before becoming a christian church this place was used for pagan fertility rituals.
Now the St. Maximus church sits atop this giant Pillar at 130 feet high. Among other features the church has a sacred crypt and a wine cellar, which may or may not lead to the secret catacombs underneath the pillar. This might be an ideal location for a honeymoon, as women are not allowed to even climb to the top.
