Renovated Green House in Hattem.
The original of Eco-Friendly Houses, located in Hattem, Netherlands, dates from around 1900. It was renovated in the 60s and 90s and can hardly be recognised now as only the wall on the eastside is reused in the modern house. Designed by Arconiko architecten the house was created to make it part of a series of contemporary buildings in the area. This unique renovation of a 111-year old dwelling was designed to let the light in. The extensive glazing facilitates cross ventilation and passive heating, and opens up parts of the original structure. New material was sourced locally, and provides interesting juxtapositions of old and new. The new house occupies the same volume as the original building and is extended towards the garden by continuously curved wooden beams. The interior is designed to respect the environment and being flexible to the inhabitants’ requirements.
