The Manta Underwater Resort – Pemba Island, Zanzibar Depth: 13ft

Located 250 metres off the coast of Pemba Island, the Underwater Room forms parts of the Manta Resort, a holiday retreat on the mainland of the island. It is a three-storey floating structure with its lowest level positioned four metres beneath the water. This unique Room was designed and built by Swedish company Genberg Underwater Hotels and takes its cues from Utter Inn, a floating structure on Lake Malaren in Sweden. Windows on every wall of the underwater bedroom allow 360 degree views of the underwater coral reef and sea life. Most exotic fish that’ll stare at you through the glass: The coelacanth – a rare, endangered, and totally scary-looking fish that hasn’t been caught since 2007. There are three bat fish and a trumpet fish called Nick who are always swimming around. Coral that grows around the outer walls and underwater spotlights encourage squid and colourful sea slugs to come into view.
